5 Confessions of a nap loving Mama

My husband makes fun of me for loving to take naps like I’m a child, but I love it. I consider it one of my hobbies. Nothing is more inviting than a cold dark room, a cozy bed with like 20 pillows, a feather down comforter, a sound machine on, and my fan on full speed. Gosh, just typing that makes me want to jump into my bed. But if you’re anything like me, you’ll understand these 5 confessions.

  1. The UPS guy knows that if he’s delivering a package between the hours of 12pm and 4pm, don’t knock or ring my door bell. I seriously have a sign at my front door that says to not ring my doorbell hahah. But knocking on my door will…
    1. Wake a sleeping baby up
    2. Wake a sleep deprived mama up
  2. My phone is is on “do not disturb” for those 4-ish hours. I have one person on my favorites list (who are able to get through to me). My husband-he knows better than to call me, he will only call for an emergency. He sends me texts that ALWAYS say “are you up” or “call me when you wake up”.
  3. I plan my trips and activities around their naps. If you call me, and say “Hey, lets have a playdate at 10:30am”. That time is risky, because one of those gremlins kids of mine will fall asleep on our way home, and that little cat nap they got in the car is enough fuel for them to not take a real nap at home, so then I don’t get a nap either.
  4. I drink Half Caff coffee. Yes I love full strength coffee, but not on days that I plan on taking a nap. If I drink a regular coffee, I’m up during nap time, laying in my bed, staring at my ceiling, thinking about how bad I want to go to sleep but can’t, with a baby or toddler drooling on my chest. So I drink the half caff so I have that burst of energy to do the morning routine, clean up, play, blog, check emails and then once 12pm rolls around, I’m slam dunking myself into bed.
  5. “Clean the house when the kids takes a nap”. Um No. I tidy up as much as I can while the kids eat breakfast, and during solo-play time. Sure I love the idea of being productive, and cleaning while they sleep, and then maybe enjoying an episode of Fixer Upper before the craziness begins, but I’d rather sleep.

I’ve always loved to sleep, I don’t know about you, but when I’m rested, I feel like a better mom. When we all wake up from our nap, we drag ourselves to the kitchen and enjoy a snack all together while we watch Team Umizoomi or Bubble Guppies. When we’re done snacking, we all play together. I actually have energy to attend to them, and be present. When I’m nap-less, I literally lay around, on my phone, or I’m dozing off. Also, When 7pm rolls around, I can still tolerate them {sounds harsh, but I’m being honest}. Have you heard of the “witching hour” with kids, well its real. and When this mama gets a good nap in, I kick that “witching hour” in the butt **insert ninja emoji**

My husband works in the office 3-4 days a week (he works from home the other days) from 9-5, so I can actually stay awake to spend some one on one time with him, which is soooo important to me. If I missed my nap, I end up going to bed super early and then he’s left on the couch by himself twiddling his thumb- okay he’s not twiddling his thumb, hes probably watching basketball or football, on snapchat, or just enjoying some peace and quite lol.

I wake up 1-2 times a night to nurse my 5 month old, so when I wake up in the morning, I’m tired. I never wake up refreshed like “ahhhhhhh, what a great sleep”, yeah, haven’t said that in like 5 years lol. So, when I wake up from a nap, I feel so good and refreshed, and ready to take on the rest of the day.

Here are some pics of my sweetie napping. Isn’t he just the cutest, and don’t you just want to jump into that DockATot and nap with him ?!?!
