How to keep a boys’ bathroom smelling fresh

I live with 4 boys! That should say a lot. That’s a lot of food to cook, that’s a lot of underwear to wash, and a lot of pee to clean up. Yep, I said it, pee. Having 3 young boys, and potty training them, our bathroom takes quite the beating. And if we don’t stay on top of it, it can get a urine smell. And if you know me, you’ll know how much I hate cleaning bathrooms, and you’ll know how much more I hate the smell of a dirty restroom. I grew up with 2 older brothers, and we shared a bathroom, so my mom never let me clean up after them. C’mon, it just wasn’t fair.

So now as an adult….

1. I suck at cleaning bathrooms because I never had to do it.
2. My husband does it for me 98% of the time.

But I do a few things on my own to maintain and keep up with the bathroom, because I hate the urine smell. By doing these to keep up with my bathroom, when it comes time to deep clean it (aka when my husband comes in with gloves, mop, and a bucket), it’s not a lot of work, and It’s almost always guest ready. How many people can say they speed clean a bathroom when an unexpected guest arrives? Or the fear when they ask “Where is your restroom?” and you have to think if there is toothpaste stuck in the sink, or droplets of pee on the floor. SO EMBARRASSING.

So even with 4 boys living in my house, this is how we keep the bathroom tidy and smelling fresh all the time. 

How to keep the bathroom smelling fresh, even with young boys:

1. Use a scented tube toilet paper: We use Angel Soft® with Fresh Lavender-Scented Tube Toilet paper. The lavender scent is in the tube, not the toilet paper. This fresh scent keeps the bathroom smelling good all the time, even in between cleanings. 2. Wipe under the toilet seat every 2 days, or if you have young children, everyday: This part is so nasty, and I’m so thankful my husband does this for me every evening. But you’d be surprised how much pee accumulates under the toilet seat. Even after just one day, that pee smell will start to take over. I’d recommend keeping some disinfectant cleaning wipes under the sink and right after you pee, but before you wash your hands, do a quick wipe down. 
3. Mop the floors bi-weekly: We actually just sweep the floors every other day, if not daily. But keeping the floors clean, especially around the toilets, will help keep a clean fresh scent all the time. 
4. Wash bathroom rugs/mats weekly: We wash all the bathroom mats at once, and separate from everything else. We love to use extra fabric softener in the wash to give it a scent boost 
5. Wipe counters down daily: Having clean and wiped down counters will tie your bathroom together. Clean counter tops will feel and look so refreshing. Having 3 young boys who are still figuring out how to brush their teeth, I’m no stranger to toothpaste residue on the sink, and mouthwash on the counters. Whenever I go to the bathroom and I notice any mess on the counters or crud on the sink, I quickly get my wipes and clean it up. It seriously takes no longer than 1 minute, and I probably would’ve spent another minute on the toilet on Instagram.
