If you’re reading this, you’re probably pregnant, thinking about becoming pregnant, have a new little one, or are just wondering how you can save some money on diapers. Having a baby is expensive, from buying a ton of new baby gear, decorating and furnishing a nursery, and buying formula (if you choose to supplement or formula feed). Plus, buying adorable baby clothes, and one of the priciest expenses…DIAPERS!

You never know how many diapers a baby actually goes through until you’re opening up the 3rd pack for the week and filling another diaper pail.

Buying diapers and saving money on diapers is kind of my expertise. Ya know after having 4 kids, I think I know a thing or two. On average a parent will spend over $900 a year on diapers! The average baby uses about 10-12 diapers a day, going through 2-3 packs a week (more for newborns) and all that adds up.

So within this post, I’m going to share some tips on how you can save some coins in the diaper department, but before we do, let’s do some math on exactly how many diapers your little one will go through during the first year of his or her life.

Exactly How many diapers will my baby go through?

Assuming you give birth to a 7-8 pound baby and are using Member’s Mark Diapers.

Size NB under 10 pounds

1 Month-1 box= 108 diapers

Size 1 8-14 pounds

Month 2&3 -3 boxes=528 diapers

Size 2 12-18 pounds

Month 4&5 -3 boxes=588 diapers

Size 3 16-28 pounds

Month 6-9 -6 boxes=1404 diapers

Size 4 22-37 pounds

Months 10-12 -2 boxes=420 diapers

So yeah, that’s A LOT of diapers, but I hope this gives you an idea of how many you’ll need, and why saving as much money as possible is important!

How to save on diapers before baby:

  1. Buy Wholesale: We LOOOOVE shopping at Sam’s Club, HELLO we have 4 kids, so I feel like we’re obligated to buy in bulk. But while we are there, we always stock up on Member’s Mark Premium Baby Diapers. If you don’t know, Member’s Mark is Sam’s Club brand. We have always loved these diapers, like since before our oldest was born! My brother used these diapers with my niece, 10 years ago. So Member’s Mark is a brand we love and trust. But what’s great about it, is their new 3-D top sheet – the ULTRASOFT® MAX LINER that helps keep Laila’s skin dry day and night. Our Laila girl is prone to diaper rashes, so this is important to us. And it’s their SOFTEST DIAPER EVER! Their diapers are also hypoallergenic-free from chlorine bleach, lotions and latex, which helps promote healthy skin. Best part about shopping at Sam’s Club, they have so many options for buying diapers that make it super convenient for a new parent, like…

  2. Use Coupons: Whenyou become a penny pinchingadult, coupons will become your best friend. Always check flyers and sales ads for coupons, because any dollar is a savings. Andspeaking of coupons, Member’s Mark Diapers and Wipes are $3 off –Limit 3 running 8/21-9/15!
  3. Have a diaper raffle: When or if you have a baby shower, consider having a diaper raffle. This is what we did at my first baby shower (for RJ) and my last shower (for Laila) and we received SO MANY DIAPERS. I mean I stacked them all up and it touched my ceiling! They didn’t even fit in Laila’s closet. And if you’re worried about receiving too many diapers and the wrong sizes, you can exchange them for the correct size. Let’s say you receive 4 boxes of size 1 Member’s Mark Premium Diapers, you know you won’t use that many. So head on in to Sam’s Club and as long as the UPCs match, you can exchange them out for the correct size.
  4. Watch how you put the diapers on: Sounds dumb. Because c’mon they’re diapers, but if you’re not putting them on correctly, your baby may leak out of them quicker, meaning more frequent diaper changes, which equates to spending more money on more diapers. So make sure you take your time when putting them on, and there are no butt cheeks hanging out

I hope this post helps you out when it comes to buying diapers for your little one. Make sure you head in to your local Sam’s Club and try out their Member’s Mark Premium Baby Diapers!
