Review of TradeWinds Island Resort

Early June we had an amazing opportunity to stay and review TradeWinds Island Resort at St. Pete Beach. My husband and I are big fans of Gulf Coast beaches. The water is much clearer and calmer there. It is a longer drive for us versus Daytona or New Smyrna Beach, but it’s always worth it.

Fun Fact: All the boys’ first beach trip has always been St. Pete Beach. Laila on the other hand, hers’ was West Palm Beach. 

However, we were really excited to experience TradeWinds Island Resort because of all the amazing things there are to do at the resort. if you go on their Instagram, you’ll quickly notice why it’s such a hot spot on the gulf coast.

We stayed for 2 days, 1 night and I just feel like we needed to stay for at least 3 days to fully enjoy the resort and see it all! There just is so much to do!

Our Stay:

The room:

We had a tropical one bedroom suite: When you first walk into the room, you immediately walk into the bedroom area, where there are 2 queen beds. At first I was like “this is weird”. As I Kept walking into the room, I understood why, because the roomy living room and full kitchen have a beautiful balcony that looks over the pool area, with an amazing view of the ocean, that type of view needs to be in a living room setting, not a bedroom. The layout made perfect sense!

My husband, Laila and I slept in the bedroom. Laila and I in one bed, my husband in the other. RJ and Elias slept on the sofa bed, in the living room, and Joel slept in a crib right by the sofa bed. This set up is perfect for large families, or families with little ones who require absolute darkness and silence to go to sleep.

What we did:

When we arrived at the resort Thursday evening, we immediately went to our room, dropped our stuff off and took off to explore the resort. We were so (positively) overwhelmed by the amount of things going on, and things to do. Because we wanted to keep it a low-key night, we decided to just take an evening stroll on the beach. Because it’s the west coast of Florida, we were able to catch the sunset right over the water. It was absolutely stunning. Right after catching the sunset, we caught the sunset special at the bar. They have a special where you can get select specialty drinks normally priced at $11 for our $5 the 30 minutes before and after sunset.

After that, we heated up some food in the kitchen and had dinner in the hotel room. We gave all the kids some quick showers before putting them to bed. Renaldo and I went to bed shortly after putting them to sleep because we were pretty exhausted from the drive.

The next day, we made the kids’ some Oatmeal in the kitchen so they could fill their tummies for the long fun filled day we were about to have. After cleaning up our room and checking out, I met up with a few blogger friends and got all settled in the blogger suite for the day. After saying my “hellos”, we RAN to the beach!

Tradewinds have a ton of beach front cabanas that you can rent! We had number 10 which was in the front row, so we had a beautiful unblocked view of the ocean (and or kiddos who were running back and forth).

After playing in the beach for awhile, we took the kiddos to the huge 25 foot water slide. I think we went on this like 10x! The boys’ absolutely loved it. Then we just the kids guide the rest of the day. They got to jump on the trampoline, we did the paddleboat as a family, played mini golf, and got to enjoy each and every pool in the resort.

Before it was time to head out, we walked 20 steps over to Rumfish Resrt and had s’mores on the beach. This is a daily activity they do every evening fo hotel guests, and it’s a hit! Imagine laying in a hammock while eating one of your favorite childhood treats.

“This was the best day ever, I REALLY didn’t want to leave”.

Hearing those words from your 6 year is the best, and will make any parent smile.

Our stay at TradeWinds Resort was a dream, and cannot wait to visit again! On our ride home, before the kids took the most epic car nap in the history of epic car naps, my oldest said “This was the best day ever, I REALLY didn’t want to leave”.

My Super honest review:

Okay, so I’m going to be 100% with you all! That’s something I want y’all to know you will always get from me. We are pretty used to staying at super luxurious and modern hotel/resorts. That’s something I ALWAYS look for when booking a room. Rumfish resort is JUST that! it’s the aesthetic I love and get excited about. TradeWinds is a little older (the pictures I shared above are EXACTLY what the rooms look like), and in my opinion, out dated–when it comes to decor. The hotel and rooms are very very clean ,and smell amazing!! But we loved that the rooms gave us everything we needed, as a family of 6, and we were in the middle of all the fun and activities. It took us no longer than 2 minutes to get from our hotel room, to the pool!

If being super close to everything is important to you, then I HIGHLY recommend booking your room at TradeWinds Island Grand. If you want something that’s more updated, and beach modern, and don’t mind being a little further from everything, then Rumfish Beach resort is the one for you.

Would I stay here again?:

Absolutely! St. Pete is a beautiful beach, and Tradewinds Island Resort did an amazing job building a resort where people can enjoy the beach and amazing amenities (on and off the beach). It’s the type of resort you don’t even need to leave. Everything you need is right there, and if you need to leave for a quick grocery store run, Publix is less than a mile down the road. This is somewhere I can envision our family coming back to, time and time again!
