How I became my mother

“Oh My God, I’m my mother” How old were you when you finally said that line? I was precisely 22 years old, and about 2 years into parenting when I realized my mother’s parenting habits rubbed off on me-in a positive way. I remember growing up, my mom would always say “one day you’ll thank me” or “one day you’re going to understand”. And I get it now

But one thing I will always remember was how my mom always did little acts of kindness. Whether it was surprising me with a girls day, which was often since I was the only girl with 2 much older brothers. Or doing my hair with big curlers-we called them rollers, anyone else said rollers? But I think my most favorite thing she would do for me was surprise me with Lunchables. BOYYYYY when she’d come with a Lunchable, I would be the happiest girl in the world. And now as an adult, I’m a charcuterie board snob- thank you Lunchables. But those kind acts of kindness my mom did for me, I now do with my kids. And best believe they get hyped when they see the bright yellow packaging of a lunchable peeking out from my reusable shopping bag (eco friendly here lol).

I think my favorite thing about surprising them with Lunchables is that it brings big smiles to their faces, but I also understand the joy they are feeling, because I too, felt that joy as a child- but now as a parent I understand the joy my mother felt when she saw me happy. Okay, now i’m crying. But really, who would’ve thought a Lunchable would make me this emotional?

But really, I’m thankful to have such a great mother who taught me everything I know about mothering.

But now on to the funny part: Aside from her getting me lunchables to make me happy, I know a BIG reason why she got it-IT’S A QUICK MEAL that saved her time, and made me happy. BIG MOM WIN!!
