Cheap and Easy Gingerbread house

This post is sponsored by Honey Maid Graham Crackers, but all opinions are my own.

I’m a mom of 4 little ones, so  that means that any type of craft we do needs to be EASY and CHEAP! I’m all about working with what we got when it comes to crafting! And the best part, the kids love finding scraps around the house while crafting.
This Holiday season we are doing lots of traveling, and we will be missing a lot of time at home-which makes me sad because November-December is seriously the most wonderful time of year, and we won’t even be home to enjoy it as much as other years. So with the little time we have at home, we are making the most of it.
My oldest said to me “mommy, I love when we make Gingerbread houses together. but not the ones that come in a kit. I want to make it on my own with left over halloween candy” Now that’s my boy! I thought, why not? I have everything we could need to make our own DIY gingerbread house. So I made it a fun family date to build a gingerbread house, and you totally should too!

Here is what you’ll need to make your Cheap and Easy Gingerbread house:

  1. Honey Maid Graham Crackers– You are using this for your walls, and roof of your gingerbread house. Make sure you get Honey Maid brand, we picked up our box at Walmart or here! They’re the sturdiest one and the tastiest!
  2. Icing: Here is a really good recipe for a homemade icing, however I bought mine at the store because I SUCK at making icing. I’ve tried it many times and failed worse and worse every time. So hereis the exact icing I used.
  3. Fruit Strips: I use this for my door and windows!
  4. Candy:To decorate the house with. Honestly you can use anything you want, there are so rules when it comes to this.
  5. Cereal Squares: I’m using this as the shingles on the roof, however this is optional.
  6. Poster Board:You’ll need this as a base for it all. I cut the poster board so each of the boys got their own.

Now let’s build a GingerBread House!

Step 1: Prepare your Honey Maid Graham Crackers. Here is a good template for how you will want to cut your graham crackers.

Step 2: Place icing on the bottom of the cardboard to act as a glue/foundation for the graham crackers to stick to.

Step 3: Put together the gingerbread house frame, all while “glueing” it together with your icing.

Step 4: Once you have put it all together, let it dry for a little bit. I let mine sit for 20 minutes. In this time, I fed the kids a snack to prevent them from eating all the candy I laid out in front of them (#momfail)

Step 5: Time to decorate!!! Let your imaginations run wild! There really are no instructions on how to properly decorate your house because it’s totally up to you! But here are a few pictures of our gingerbread houses which you can use as inspiration.

So that was  it!! Super CHEAP and Easy and is fun for the entire family. Whether you want to have a fun family date night or you want to do it all for your own personal fun, Honey Maid Graham Crackers purchased from Walmart is the base of all this fun!!
