Elias’ hair care routine: Natural Curly Hair

So this month we are cutting Elias’ hair off. You read that right! We are finally chopping his hair off just before his 4th birthday. We decided to finally do this because his hair is getting to be too much–aka he looks a mess 5 days out of 7. And he also has been asking to have hair like daddy and big brother (short with a skin fade). He has been asking for a hair cut since he was 2, but now that he’s older and really knows what he wants, we’re finally going to do it.

But before we do that, I had to put together a post sharing his hair care routine. Whenever we do his hair and I share a picture or video of him on Instagram, I get flooded with messages on what we use in his hair. So here I go…

Step 1:

First things first, I wash and condition his hair. While there is conditioner in his hair still, I detangle it with our Conair brush. I bought it over 7 years ago, and I swear by this brush, I’m able to detangle my hair and his hair quickly and pain free! I’ve used a lot of brushes and this is the one we keep going back to!

Step: 2

After I wash and detangle his hair, While it’s still dripping wet, I apply ECO gel. We use the one with castor oil in it. I work that into his hair through every stand, moving section by section until his entire head of hair is covered in gel.

Step 3:

I use Curls Curl control paste to lay his edges down. His edges/baby hair tends to get frizzy throughout the day so using the curl paste keeps his hair looking fresh all day long.

Step 4:

Lastly, I use a towel to pat it dry. Sometimes, if time is not of the essence, I’ll use a blow dryer! (not pictured)

So yeah, that was Elias’ hair care routine. From start to finish its like 30 minutes (including hair wash time). It’s very time consuming, so we’re sad and happy to finally be cutting it off.
