Baby Curly Hair Routine

Taking care of long curly hair is nothing new to me, after all, have you seen my natural curls? So I knew when I had kids I would be brushing and detangling hair, and lots of it. With my oldest, we cut all his hair off when he was around 18 months old. And with my 2nd, we still haven’t cut his hair, and it’s long! If you follow my family, you’ll know which kid I’m talking about. So when we finally gave birth to a little girl, I kind of knew what to expect. But what I didn’t expect was for her hair to grow so long and curly at a young age. By 5 months old she was rocking a full on curl fro.
So around 5 months old we adopted a hair care routine with her that’s not just baby shampoo. She has very dry hair, and we noticed even going 3-4 days without washing her hair would still be very dry. I then did some research on products and whats chemical free, and safe for babies. And around the same time of me using these products, you all began messaging me asking me what I use in her hair. I thought it would be easier writing a blog post and making a vlog about it, instead of answering the same question 4+ times a day (btw, if you message me still asking…I won’t mind it at all!!)

Laila’s Hair Care Routine:
This is what works for Laila, and her hair type. Not all babies are the same. So don’t be mad at me if you don’t get the same results.
What we use:
- Baby Dove Shampoo
- Aveda Cherry Almond Conditioner
- Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curling Butter Cream
How we do it:
- Wash every 2-3 days with Baby Dove Shampoo: Massage the scalp. Rinse
- Put a little less than a dime amount of Aveda Cherry Almond Conditioner. Spread evenly throughout hair. While Conditioner sits, wash rest of baby’s body with their normal body wash. We use Dove Baby Tip Toe Wash. Then rinse everything out. Be careful when rinsing conditioner, it’s not tear free.
- Once you take baby out of bath, and he/she is all dried up and in a diaper, apply Curling Butter cream. I use about 2 finger tips worth and it’s enough to cover all of her hair. I just run it through her curls and then let her hair dry normally.
I noticed with this routine, her curls stay hydrated and shiny for about 2-3 days. Also, her curls are more defined and not just a big frizz ball. No matter where we go, she gets compliments on her hair. And every time I share pictures of her on social media, my inbox is flooded with DMs asking what we use.
Thank you so much for reading, and I hope this helps you out with managing your little one’s curls, and maintaining it’s natural beauty!
