Making your mornings intentional with your Spouse
I am not a morning person, I have to make that very clear, and have always struggled with waking up-it’s probably because I go to bed so late. But there are some mornings that Renaldo and I wake up a bit earlier than the kids and spend this time together. We do this especially when we haven’t gone on a date in a little while. But that time in the morning when the kids are still sleeping, our house is cold, quiet and just so peaceful. So about once every 2 weeks, we make it a point to wake up early together and start our morning having an at home date night.
In this blog post I am going to share some fun at home morning date ideas for you and your spouse!
This post is sponsored by Chinet, but as always, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own!
Wake up an hour before the kids typically wake up
Like I said before, I’m terrible at waking up early. But this time early in the morning is so quiet in our house and we feel the most at peace and at ease at this time. Before we even step foot out of bed, we literally just snuggle together and talk about whatever comes to mind.
Drink coffee together
This is such an obvious one, but morning coffee is so special to me, like it’s pretty ridiculous how excited I get about drinking my coffee in peace (no kids climbing all over me). Renaldo also feels the same way about our morning coffee! When we plan for a morning date, we like to try a new coffee, get a different creamer and get fun printed cups from the Chinet brand (pictured above). I am in love with our new Chinet® Comfort Cup® insulated hot cups, which are perfect for on-the-go or at home, with double layer insulation which keeps my coffee warm!!
Create a goal list for the day
I LOOOOVE to go over my daily to-do list with Renaldo, and ask what all he has planned for work for the day. This is the perfect way to get on the same page for expectations for the day. Since we both work from home, Renaldo being really tied to a computer and meetings, whereas I have more flexibility, but I am constantly occupied with the kids and homeschool- we like to plan our day out with each other so we both know what’s going on (appointments, meeting times, virtual school meetings, etc). This is actually something we do almost daily, but if you’re wanting to start having morning dates with your spouse, this is something y’all can do together.
Snuggle on the couch and watch cartoons
This one is probably my favorite. We were born 10 months apart, so we grew up watching the same exact cartoons! Our favorites are definitely Hey Arnold, Scooby Doo, Rocket Power, Looney Toons, Recess, Rugrats, Johnny Bravo, Powder Puff Girls, Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, and Spongebob!
Cook breakfast together
I think any type of date that involves cooking together is so much fun! Renaldo and I both love to cook, and we both have 2 different breakfast styles. So its a lot of fun coming together and making something yummy! Plus we’ll make extra so when the kids wake up, breakfast is already ready!
Breakfast in bed
Who doesn’t love a good breakfast in bed? I know I sure do! That breakfast you just made above, bring it to bed with a lap tray and enjoy it together.
Share what you’re grateful for
Sometimes in marriage- especially with kids, you start to get comfortable and forget to share what you’re thankful for in each other. Renaldo and I like to share what we love about each other, whether it’s something they did during the week, little quirks (like the way he looks when he’s deep in thought), or even something that happened years ago. It’s such a fun way to start your day in a positive way! Sounds so corny, but we make sure we are looking in each other’s eyes when we’re doing this and touching. Both of our love languages are physical touch with words of affirmation following that, so this is how we meet our love language needs.
