My Morning Routine As a Work-From-Home Mom

This post is sponsored by Land O‘Lakes, but all opinions expressed here are my own.

This is probably my most commonly asked question, what do your mornings look like as a work- at-home mom? I still consider myself a stay-at-home mom because I do all the same things as a stay-at-home mom, but I just run and manage my business as well (my blog) on my own time. So doing all the home things and running a blog takes some serious dedication and self discipline. For awhile I found myself in a weird little rut where I was staying on top of laundry, the kids ate super nutritious meals and my floors were spotless, but I’d go over a week without a new blog post, and days before I’d write anyone back. I told myself, “you gotta get your stuff together, Aseky. This IS YOUR LIFE. YOU’RE A WORK-FROM-HOME MOM! Find balance”. So I took my own advice and decided to dedicate my mornings to getting stuff done.

Mornings in my house are extremely chaotic, especially now since school is back in session. But it’s in the mornings that I find myself the most productive! By the evening, I’m exhausted, just wanting to wind down and enjoy my alone time with my husband. So I make sure I tackle as much stuff as possible in the morning.

I should add I’M NOT A MORNING PERSON, all this is made possible with my morning cup of coffee. I have been loving my morning coffee with Land O Lakes Lactose-Free Half & Half. I am lactose intolerant, and it’s even worse since giving birth to Laila. Normal things I was able to eat, I can no longer anymore. I found that even drinking my morning coffee with my previous creamer left me feeling sick. As a mom, the last thing I can feel is sick. I have 4 kiddos to take care of and content to create. So since switching how I flavor my coffee-now with Land OLakes Lactose-Free Half & Half, I no longer suffer from stomach aches. All my lactose intolerant mamas, CAN I GET AN AMEN?!?!

What makes it different from any other Half & Half? They use milk and cream to make Land O Lakes Lactose-Free Half & Half. It’s like their regular Half & Half, except they add a simple enzyme to break down the lactose. So add that smooth splash to my coffee with peace of mind—it’s lactose-free!

My morning routine as a work-from-home mom:

Now that school is back in session: this is my AM routine, so the moment I wake up, until about 1pm.

7am: Hit the snooze button-being honest here. I’m impossible to wake up. I need a practice wake up first, then the real deal 10 minutes later.

7:10-Wake up, for real this time.

7:15-Sit on the toilet, check my bank account (make sure nothing crazy was auto drafted from my account), and check my email. Then brush my teeth.

7:25- Sneak out of my room, head to the kitchen and brew my morning cup of coffee with Land O Lakes Lactose-Free Half & Half.

7:30- Enjoy my coffee and the silence of my house. This part of my morning is important to me. If I don’t get my morning me time, everything is off balance for the day. In this time, I’m able to make a to-do list for the day and make daily goals.

7:45- Wake the kids up. While they’re dragging themselves out of bed, I prep their breakfast. Normally we have oatmeal, or if I’m being lazy, cereal will do.

8:00- Get my older son ready for school. In this time, he brushes his teeth, and I get his clothes out! Also in this time, I get myself dressed, normally shorts and a plain t-shirt.

8:20- I leave with only RJ to drop him off at school. The younger 3 stay at home with my husband. In the time I’m taking RJ, my husband gets Elias and Joel ready for school (I lay the clothes out before I leave).

8:35-Back home! I change Laila’s diaper, and get her in her carseat. I then load Elias and Joel in the car so I can take them to preschool. At this time, I kiss my husband goodbye-if he decides to work in the office.

8:45-Leave for preschool drop off.

9:20- Back home, and ready to officially start MY morning-with Laila.

9:25- Make breakfast for me and Laila. If I don’t make myself something to eat, I probably won’t eat until dinner time, or I’ll eat snacks all day. So I make myself breakfast, and give Laila some from it. I love scrambled eggs and toast, takes less than 5 minutes to make! While we eat, I aimlessly scroll Instagram or watch Youtube videos.

9:50-Throw in a load of laundry (I will fold in the afternoon). But I do one load every single day! To read 10 things I do everyday as a stay-at-home mom, click here.

10:00- WORK TIME! This is where I take pictures if I need to (my house has great lighting at this time). I finish off any posts that need to be done, I message people back. Basically anything that involves my work, I get done between 10am and Noon. During my work time, I have Laila on her bedroom floor playing, I put her in her walker with some toys, she’s in her activity center or she’s in my arms nursing to fall asleep. I’m very lucky she’s an easy baby when it comes to entertaining herself. She doesn’t require 100% of me in the mornings, so I’m able to get a lot of work done.

11:45- Laila’s Nap time. She always gets sleepy around this time, and will sleep until about 1pm. I nurse her to sleep, and lay her down in her crib until it’s time to pick up Elias and Joel from preschool. She stays asleep through the entire car ride, but wakes up once we make it to the school at 1pm.

So yeah, that’s my morning routine as a work-from-home mom with 4 kiddos. This is what works for me and my family. But I’m a big believer of implementing independent play with your children. Those 2 hours in the morning where Laila is playing (alongside me-I’m on my laptop on her bedroom floor, or on the living room couch, wherever she is) I’m able to squeeze in so much work.

I continue my work in the evenings when my husband is at the gym with the kids (usually around 5-7pm), and if need be again after the kids go to sleep (8:30-10pm). Clearly you can see my work is broken into 2-hour increments throughout the day. As a blogger, who also is a stay-at-home mom, I’m blessed with the freedom to work on my time, even if it’s so random.
