The Boy’s surprise Disney Play Date Party
This party was sponsored by Disney, but all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own.
As summer comes to an end, my husband and I thought it would be fun to throw the boys a surprise Disney play date with a couple of their close friends. We have Disney annual passes (click here to read how we afford Disney Passes as a family of 6) but we have blockout dates all summer long. So aside from a few media events my family was invited to and staying at a Disney Resort, we missed being able to head on over to Disney World whenever we wanted. So we brought the Disney Magic to them!!!
While the kids’ were napping, we decorated our dining room, so when they woke up they were greeted by the very best Disney decor and their closest friends. THEY HAD NO CLUE, and their reactions were priceless.
I think throwing a Disney themed play date is the perfect way to experience the Disney Magic, especially if you I’ve too far from Disney, or are experiencing blockout dates like we were. It’s also fun to invite other friends along and get them excited about all things Disney.
So enough of my jibber jabber, here is how YOU can plan the ultimate Disney Play Date
How YOU can plan the ultimate Disney Play Date:
*I am going to share pictures from our Disney play date, however ONLY my children were photographed, simply in consideration of their privacy*

PICK A DATE:
Because I’m a stay at home mom/blogger I am able to throw random parties like this any day of the week, including week days. I love throwing week day parties because it doesn’t take away any time from our weekends, which are usually filled with sport activities, birthday parties, yard work. So being a stay at home mom, it offers me more flexibility when it comes to themed playdates. If you work outside of the home, I’d also consider doing an evening playdate, and offer more dinner type foods for the kids. So with all that being said, I threw mine on Wednesday July 31st in the late afternoon, after their nap and quiet time.
PICK A DISNEY THEME KIDS WOULD LOVE:
Because there was a mix of boys and girls, we decided to keep it classic and stick with Mickey Mouse theme. You can NEVER go wrong with that. If there will be lots of little princesses there, princess theme would be perfect. If you will be having lots of Princes there then a Lion King theme would be AMAZING! But for us, we stuck with Mickey Mouse. We also had a few pieces from JAKKS Pacific and Pillow Pet that we used as decoration.
HAVE DISNEY INSPIRED GAMES:
You can’t have a play date without games and a rocking playlist. You have to keep things fun for the kids, or else they’ll get bored. So for our play date we had several games lined up, including…
- Pin the nose on Mickey
- 4 corners
- Musical Chairs with Disney Themed Music
- Matching cards games
DISNEY THEMED MUSIC:
As for our playlist we had the Disney 90’s station playing on Apple Music, CLICK HERE to view all the playlists. but songs from the Disney 90’s playlist include…
- Hakuna Matata (Lion King)
- Under The Sea (Little Mermaid)
- Be Our Guest (Beauty and The Beast)
- You’ve Got A Friends In Me (Toy Story)
- I Just Can’t Wait To Be King (Lion King)
- Strangers Like Me (Tarzan)
- Reflection (Mulan)
- Part of Your World (Little Mermaid)
- Circle of Life (Lion King)
- and plenty more..
FOOD:
Kids love food, correction, Kids love snacks! And that’s exactly what we served. Lots of sweet and Disney snacks.
- Popped Passion Popcorn cake
- Chocolate Candies
- Pirates Booty Popcorn
- Mini Corn Dogs
- Mickey Ice Cream Bars
If you’re wanting to serve more hearty foods, I’d recommend..
- Uncrustable sandwiches
- Pizza Rolls
- Fruit cups
- veggies and ranch
HAVE PLENTY OF PROPS FOR THE GUESTS TO WEAR:
I personally have a large collection of Minnie Ears, so I laid them all out for the moms to borrow for the playdate. If you don’t have any Minnie Ears and would love to offer your guests some, They sell some cheaper ones on Amazon! For the kids’ we had adorable Mickey Masks, which were a total hit! By offering fun props for your guests to use, it gets them more into the Disney Magic!
So that’s everything you need to know about creating the ultimate Disney Play Date! I HOPE this inspired you to do the same for your little one!!
