What to Expect at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party

This past Friday my husband, and 4 kids went to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Believe it or not, this Disney obsessed family went for the very first time! I have gone several times as a child, and it was probably one of my most favorite things to do at Disney World. So finally after 7 or so years of being a parent, we went!!

In this blog post I’m going to share everything there is to do at Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, my favorite things to eat, see and ride! I’ll also share some tips for enjoying this party as a family of 6 with 4 littles ones all 6 and under (1 of which being an 11 month old- and the other being a 2 year old)

About Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party: 

• Located at Disney’s Magic Kingdom
• Party is from 7pm to Midnight, but can arrive as early as 4pm.
• Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party runs from August 16th through November 1st.
  • August – 16, 20, 23, 27 and 30
    September – 2, 6, 8, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, 24, 27 and 29
    October – 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, 11, 14, 15, 17, 18, 20, 21, 24, 25, 27, 29 and 31
    November 1
• Tickets start at $85 and if you purchase in advance, you can save up to $10.
• Party starts at 7pm, but you can arrive as early as 4pm with the purchase of Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween tickets.

Halloween Fun for everyone, of all ages:

Halloween, Disney style. You can come enjoy the park, while wearing your favorite costume, and load up on some candy. Your favorite Disney Characters will be all around the park dressed up in their costumes!

They have fun spots where your little ones can get their groove on. Our favorite spots where in Fantasyland, Where they have Disney Junior Jam-dance with Timon, Doc McStuffins, and Vampirina.

Things to see and do:

Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular at Magic Kingdom

This 12 minute frightfully fun firework display, Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy are spirited away to a mysterious haunted house where they encounter dancing skeletons-Jack Skeleton, waltzing ghosts and a sinister gathering of Disney villains!

There is state-of-the-art projection effects, lasers, light and fireworks during this show!! You can get the best views on Main Street, and in front of the castle. However, we watch it from a distance because Laila and Joel are still scared of fireworks. 

Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular Show

The Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus return to Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, to throw their own party! There are appearances from Dr. Facilier, Oogie Boogie and Maleficent! This show can be viewed on Main Street U.S.A!

BOO-to-You Halloween Parade

This beautiful and fun 20 minute parade starts in Frontierland (by splash mountain) and ends at the start of Main Street U.S.A!

• A flurry of favorite Disney friends, including Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse—in all-new Halloween costumes—trick-or-treating down Main Street, U.S.A.
• Hitchhiking Ghosts and a new addition—the spectral Bride, who glides among the waltzing spirits—representing the Haunted Mansion from Liberty Square
• A new Tomorrowland unit featuring The Incredibles and designer extraordinaire Edna Mode, followed by Buzz Lightyear and some alien explorers
• Wreck-It Ralph, Vanellope von Schweetz and the girls from Sugar Rush making sure there’s plenty of sweet stuff to go around
• Pirates sailing in from Adventureland, Clarabelle Cow hosting a square dance during a Frontierland hoedown and a wicked assortment of Disney Villains reigning over a Fantasyland-inspired grand finale.

Make sure you get there early so you can see the headless horseman riding through Magic Kingdom right before the parade.

Park Attractions and New Additions: 

• Space Mountain: Rocket through this popular attraction in complete darkness to the riffs and chords of a new Halloween-inspired soundtrack.- I did this one with RJ and he absolutely loved it!!
• Pirates of the Caribbean: Set sail for the high seas and discover a crew of live pirates engaged in a whole new adventure doing what pirates do best: search for treasure!
• Mad Tea Party: Spin yourself into a frenzy as special lighting and music effects enhance the fur-raising experience!
• NEW! Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor: Follow a treat trail from our Human World into the Monster World and interact with a comic cast of monsters eager to learn about this holiday we call Halloween.

Tips for attending the party (with lots of little ones): 

1. Let your little ones take a later nap that day, so they are prepared to stay up late. Party ends at midnight. We put our 2 year old down for a nap around 3, and let him sleep until 5:30 ish. He was able to stay up till 1am with no meltdowns.
2. Be prepared for a sugar high: There is SO MUCH CANDY! There’s a 99.9% chance your little one will sneak 5 or 50 pieces of candy! But remember, what goes up, must come down. All of my boys crashed!
3. Speaking of candy, get some for yourself too!: Shoot, you’re a paying ticketed guest, GET YOUR FREE CANDY!
4. Bring your own candy bag: Disney provides bags for your candy, but if you want a larger bag bring your own!
5. If you can, book a hotel nearby if you’re traveling further than an hour. Once the party is over you may not want to drive that far! You’ll just want to put the kiddos to sleep! We ended up booking a suite and a room at The Four Seasons at Walt Disney World for the entire weekend. We benefited from all the benefits of a Disney Resort, by having a bus pick us up and drop us off at the party and at the hotel. So we didn’t need to drive, and we were literally 5 minutes away from the Ticket and Transportation Center of Magic Kingdom. Plus it was so much more stress free being so close to the party! So if it’s in your budget, book a room!

   

6. Go on as many rides as possible: Lines are super short, so you can go on almost all the rides there! We only waited 15 minutes for Peter Pan-that ride is typically over 60 minutes!
7. Get there while it’s still daylight: You’re going to want to take some pictures while it’s still daylight-especially if you’re wearing some cute instagram worthy costumes. We arrived around 7pm and it was already dark! However, we were able to get pictures of us outside of the hotel before we left.
8. While we’re talking about costumes, don’t feel pressure to wear a costume: Of course its 48929x better to wear a costume at Disney World, however it is Florida that we’re talking about. Some nights are HOT and sticky and putting little ones in a costume can be a bit much especially if you’re attending in August or early September. We put the kids in Toy Story theme shirts, and we were Disney Halloween Shirts and still had a blast! But if you want to do costumes for the sake of #DoitForTheGram maybe just bring a back up halloween shirt in your bag!
9. Eat Dinner before you go: So while you’re there, you can enjoy everything the party has to offer. But if you do decide to do dinner there, I recommend doing mobile order through the My Disney Experience App. That’s what we did, and total time we spent eating was like 20 min!
10. HAVE FUN! Whether you have no kids or 6 kids, have the best time ever. Eat all the candy, dance with Mike and Sully from Monster’s Inc at the dance party, and wear all the fun halloween themed Minnie Ears. Any holiday at Disney World is the absolute best. All of my favorite childhood memories are spent at Disney World, especially for the holidays.
