6 MONTHS OLD ||Time for Solids. With every baby we had, the excitement never wore off. It’s a huge milestone for the baby, and probably more for the parents. My husband and I would fight over who gets to give the first spoon, but one thing we never fought about was who gets to clean it all up. It gets messy, friends. In this post I’ll share with you all the mealtime essentials you may possibly need, orrrrr what I needed.

Introducing solids tip: Every baby is different. Your baby may not like solids the first time around, or even the 10th time around. Just don’t give up. My oldest loved it from the beginning, never gave us problems. Laila girl on the other hand, she’s all about boobie milk. She wants nothing to do with it, but she’s warming up to it.

  1. Highchair: Well somewhere to put your baby, whether it’s a bumbo, walker, or your lap. But I prefer the highchair! We use the Joovy Nook, and love it. It’s super minimal, but it has exactly what we need without all the loud bright colors. (minimalist/monochrome lover here)
  2. Food steamer/processor: We like to make her own food, no real reason but that it’s a hobby for me. We also use jar food for when we are on the go. We are currently using the Beaba food processor, and so far love it. It steams the food quickly and purees the food perfectly.
  3. Wipes: And lots of it! Your baby will make a mess, so having wipes to quickly wipe his/her face or little fingers is a must!
  4. Rinse-able bibs: a set of rinse-able bibs that you can just rinse off with water and lay out to dry has to be on your mealtime shopping list. I have these ones here
  5. Storage for homemade baby food: Because I make baby food, and a lot of it at once, I freeze them in little containers (link here) or ice cube trays (like this one here)!
  6. Bowls/Glass Jars: Somewhere to put your baby’s food to feed them. We decided with Laila to use glass storage containers with air lock lids. Some of her food the I premade I’ll store in there so all I have to do it rewarm it, and it’s ready to be fed.
  7. Spoons: Soft Silicone tip spoons are my recommendation. Just make sure it’s soft for you little one’s gums. These are the ones I have, but really, a spoon is a spoon. Doesn’t have to be anything special.

Thank you so much for reading! Congratulations to you and your little one for starting solids. It’s a great milestone, and definitely one worth celebrating!
