Our Road Trip to West Palm Beach Florida
I feel so silly even saying road trip because west palm beach is really not that far away, but if we’re breaking it down- we hit the road for a trip, so we took a road trip. But because of everything going on in the world, we knew taking a road trip was the best option instead of flying or going too far.
We spent a lot of time looking for a spacious, but cute vacation home for us to safely travel to, and social distance in. We knew we wanted a pool, and to be close to the beach. And we ultimately picked West Palm beach, because we’ve done that drive with the kids plenty of times, and there beaches are incredible.
In this blog post, I am going to share where we stayed at and what we drove! But first, make sure you follow me and my family on Instagram!
Our Car:
There are 6 of us in our family, but we wanted to ride in something that was spacious enough for all of us, and our things (we bring ALL the things), good on gas because we would be driving pretty far, but also aesthetically pleasing-in other words the Mazda CX-9. We have driven this car plenty of times (our trip to Boston, and Our trip to St. Augustine) but really every year we drive in it, it gets better and better.
We rode in the signature class, with the captain seas, so there was just enough seating for the 6 of us. The kids were all comfortable, even though they were in their car seats. But Renaldo and I had plenty of legroom, even with a rear facing car seat behind us.
We live in Florida, so having leather seats is not ideal. But he Mazda CX-9 had ventilated seats so even on the hottest South Florida day, our seats actually pets us cool. And If you’re reading this from up north, the seats are also heated, along with the steering wheel.
My husband’s favorite part about the car is how fast it is. This 6 seater SUV packs a punch, and is FAST. It is equipped with Turbo, and it is even more powerful than before. it is also equipped with sky active technology, and many safety features- including ADV smart city breaking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, Mazda radar cruise control, with stop and go and lane-keep assist.
It’s been 3 years of continuously testing out the newer Mazda CX-9 models and we love it more and more every time! If you’re on the market for a sleek SUV that doesn’t break the bank, check out the Mazda CX-9. To read my older reviews click HERE.
Where we stayed at:
We knew when we traveled we wanted to stay in a vacation home so we can get the most bang for our buck! We wanted a private pool, and lots of space for our kids to run around and feel comfortable in. We just wanted a home away from home. So I opened up my Vrbo app and got to searching.
We decided on Vrbo because a month prior we had an amazing experience with a Vrbo home in Reunion Florida, LINK HERE. But the entire booking process was seamless and secure. So when it came to looking for a home in West Palm Beach, Vrbo was the go-to!
A few things on our Vrbo home checklist for a family of 6:
- minimum 3-4 bedrooms
- close to the beach (less than a 5 minute drive, walking distance preferred)
- MUST have a pool-thats nonnegotiable
- clean and bright aesthetic
- clean kitchen
- 2 living areas (one for the kids to play and watch tv, and one for my husband and i)
- in a good neighborhood
And the house we stayed in, checked off every single one of those above! We stayed in the Palm Beach Cottage . The owners of this home were beyond accommodating and amazing from start to finish. From the moment we booked this home, they began the 5 star service, and even after we left they sent a few follow up messages to ensure we enjoyed our stay.
So much space!!
Our home had 3 bedrooms, in the main house, and in the pool house was another bedroom, kitchenette and bathroom. We put Joel and Elias in one room, and RJ and Laila in the other room. They had a playpen for Laila, however, we brought our own. There was a main living area which we watched morning cartoons, and a Florida room with a projector and screen, that’s where we watched movies in the evening. There was a dining room with a table to seat all 6 of us. A full and beautiful kitchen, with a gas stove!
Theres a pool!!
And then the best part, there was a pool!! Thats the kids favorite part about going on vacations is playing in a pool, but to have their own private pool that we can stay in all day and until whatever time is key!!
Close to the beach!

Being close to the beach is really important to us. Our home was actually steps away from the marina, but to get to the actual beach was like a 5 minute drive-which is perfect when you have 4 kids to load up in the car. The beaches in West Palm are amazing! The sand is golden and plush. The water is blue, almost turquoise. And every time we have gone, pre pandemic, it w never packed. So when we went in July (middle of summer now), the beaches were near empty.

Clearly you can tell we really had a great time, and look forward to coming back to this home again!
Our stay was in partnership with Vrbo, and our car was loaned in partnership with Mazda USA. But as always, all thoughts and opinions are 100% my own!
