Regrets on Sterilization Surgery?

It’s been exactly one year since I had my tubes completely removed. I want to make it clear, I didn’t have them tied or cut. They were removed. The procedure is called Bilateral Salpingectomy, you can read more about my procedure and experience HERE. But it’s been one year since my surgery and I’ve had so many questions about my decision. If I regret it. Will I ever want any more babies. Or how I’m feeling now.

So within this post, I’m going to share all my honest feelings on closing my shop permanently. And all the raw emotions that come along with it.

Also, if you want to know how we knew our family was complete, Read my post HERE.

Why did I do it to begin with:

We don’t want any more children. Point blank. We are very fertile, I mean, I look at Renaldo and bam there is a baby inside of me. We knew that we didn’t want anymore children, so why would I take birth control and still run the risks of getting pregnant. Birth control is only effective if you take it at the same time, every single day. And I’m a busy mom who sometimes forgets to brush my teeth, ya think I’ll remember to take birth control. We also travel alot, and the hassle of bringing birth control just sounded like too much. We could’ve had renaldo do the vasectomy, but at the time he was uninsured, and out of pocket costs would’ve been $400, versus $0 for me to have it done.

So to answer the question, we didn’t want anymore kids.

How am I feeling physically 1 year post surgery?:

I feel great. I actually just got my first period since the surgery (so a little over 11 months) and it wasn’t super heavy like I expected. I don’t have any hormonal issues (because I still have my ovaries), no breakouts whatsoever, no mood swings, nothing, I’m very chill, for the most part.

Do I regret it?

No, I don’t! At all! There are times that I’m sad about never being pregnant again, but I remind myself that I love pregnancy, not the raising a 5th kid part. I love my 4, and that’s what I’m mentally and physically able to handle. But If I were to keep having kids just off having good pregnancies, we’d be the Duggar family. Also it’s an amazing feeling knowing I’m not pregnant. I think any female who is not planning on getting pregnant at the moment will understand the gut wrenching feeling of possibly being pregnant if you’re even 1 day late for your period. So it’s nice being able to be intimate with my husband with absolutely no worries- he appreciates it too 😉

Do we ever want more kids?

Because I’m able to conceive via IVF not naturally, having another child is not off the table. As of this moment and I don’t see this ever changing, NO. If I were to want to have an0other child, it would be maybe when I’m 35 and by then my kids are going to be between 10 and 16 years old. Why would I want to start over again? Also Renaldo is entertaining the idea of adoption-which I’m not about. I think adoption is beautiful and amazing thing to do. But I don’t feel it on my heart, nor do I think I ever will. Again, I can only handle 4 kids-nothing more. So to answer the question, no to having another child via IVF or adoption.

Don’t I want Laila to have a sister?

I sure do! I didn’t have a sister growing up and I REALLY wanted one, and to this day I wish I had a sister growing up to have as a lifelong best friend. But now as an adult, I’m thankful for my childhood best friend, who is basically a sister to me, And my sister in law who I basically grew up with I was 15. We’re the best of friends, and treat each other like sisters. Although I wanted it growing up, it doesn’t affect me now as an adult whatsoever. And plus my mom is my best friend as well. So I’m hopeful Laila will look at me as a best friend when she gets older, she’ll gain some amazing friends, and amazing sister in laws (she has 3 brothers so this won’t be an issue) and she also has some older girl cousins to look up to, so she’ll be okay.

So I hope this answered any if not all your questions pertaining to the future growth of our family and my tubal surgery. If you have any questions, please reach out in the comments, or DM me on Instagram.
